Bangladesh added uncapped opener Shadman Islam for the opening Test against Windies, BCB national selector confirmed on Monday (November 19).

It was learnt team management opted to pick Islam as back up as they are still not convinced about the opening combination and want to have more options available in the absence of Tamim Iqbal, who is out with a side strain. "We have opted to include him in our squad. We are keeping an eye on him for quite some time and we feel it is the right time to introduce him," Habibul Bashar told Cricbuzz.

Bashar added that his knock of 73 against Windies in the two-day practice match also played a big part in his inclusion. "He batted really well and we believe his recent first-class form had helped him to gain a lot of confidence," Bashar pointed out.

Islam, the 23-year-old left-hander, has been a regular run-scorer in domestic cricket over the last few years and had previously represented Bangladesh A and Bangladesh Under 19 teams. He was the highest scorer in the just concluded National Cricket League, country's first-class tournament and known for his gritty batting approach.
