Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon shared nine wickets between them as New South Wales crushed Queensland by 163 runs in Canberra to post their maiden win of the Sheffield Shield 2018 season. Queensland could eke out only 216 in their second innings.

Queensland, who began the final day on 51 for 2, lost Joe Burns early in the morning session. Charlie Hemphrey, the Yorkshire-born cricketer, Sam Heazlett and Jimmy Peirson all fell to Lyon as Queensland slipped further to 88 for 6. Jack Wildermuth, batting at No.6, composed a quickfire 91-ball 84, but Hazlewood and Lyon ran through the lower order to snuff out Queensland.

The foundation for NSW's win was laid by Mosies Henriques, who crunched an impressive 178-ball 152 in the first innings. Queensland, the defending champions, are placed at the bottom of the table with six points while NSW find themselves at third spot with 13 points.

Brief scores: NSW 279 (Moises Henriques 152; Mark Steketee 4-38) & 360/3 decl (Nick Larkin 175*, Daniel Hughes 116; Mitchell Swepson 2-133) beat Queensland 260 (Michael Neser 62; Nathan Lyon 4-83) & 216 (Jack Wildermuth 84; Nathan Lyon 5-94, Josh Hazlewood 4-30) by 163 runs.

South Australia vs Western Australia

Shaun Marsh's noteworthy unbeaten 163 and a stand of 164 with William Bosisto (58) steered Western Australia home by five wickets against South Australia in Adelaide. The visitors chased down the target of 313 in 99 overs.

When the day began, WA needed 167 further runs to post a memorable win. The two overnight batsmen, Marsh and Bosisto, continued to collect useful runs to put the pressure back on the opposition ranks. The duo took WA to within just 36 runs of a victory before Bosisto's patient 189-ball vigil was ended by Daniel Worrall.

Marsh, who struck 22 fours and two sixes, and Josh Inglis then duly took the visitors past the finishing line with an undefeated partnership. Worrall, who took a rich haul of seven wickets in the first essay, bagged three wickets in the second innings. Western Australia slot in at the second position on the points table with 17 points. On the other hand, South Australia have just nine points to their name.

Brief scores: South Australia 251 (Travis Head 87; Jhye Richardson 5-47) and 268 (Harry Nielsen 82; Matthew Kelly 5-61) lost to Western Australia 207 (Jhye Richardson 53; Daniel Worrall 7-64) and 313/5 (Shaun Marsh 163*; Daniel Worrall 3-84) by five wickets.

Tasmania vs Victoria

Matthew Wade continued on the good work of Jordan Silk and Alex Doolan with an enterprising 194-ball 137 as Tasmania made a fine comeback in their Sheffield Shield game versus Victoria in Hobart. The hosts were bowled out for 476 in the second innings, setting a target of 276 for Victoria.

With the home team still trailing by five runs at stumps on Day 2, Tasmania, who were shot out for just 81 in the first essay, needed vital contributions through the course of the batting order. Unfortunately for them, Jake Doran, Silk (90) and George Bailey were dismissed early on in the first session as the hosts found themselves precariously placed at 232 for 5. Wade, though, constructed a stand 73 for the sixth wicket with Tim Paine (40) to lift the home team.

Even after Paine and Gurinder Sandhu were dislodged, Jackson Bird (50) gave Wade good company to steer the side to safer waters. To make matters worse for the visitors, Wade upped the ante and stitched a crucial stand of 42 for the final wicket with Riley Meredith, who scored just four runs. Wade was the last man dismissed, with Peter Siddle taking the wicket. At close of play, Victoria were 12 for no loss, needing a further 264 for a victory.

Brief scores: Tasmania 81 & 476 (Matthew Wade 137, Alex Doolan 94, Peter Siddle 4-100) lead Victoria 282 (Cameron White 63; Riley Meredith 4-61) and 12/0 by 263 runs
