On the fifth day of his arguments on Monday, Haris hinted finishing his argument on Tuesday while interacting with Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir, who is hearing three National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references against Nawaz Sharif and his family.
As hearing resumed, Khawaja Haris stated that in his statement Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head Wajid Zia had said that Nawaz Sharif is the owner of London flats.
When NAB Prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi objected on Haris’s long closing arguments, the defence lawyer said that he soon will conclude them.
On Monday, Khawaja Haris argued that the Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report should not be solely used to direct proceedings of the corruption trial as the court needs to forge its own path.
The lawyer made the submission as the accountability court resumed hearing of the Avenfield reference against the Sharif family.
The Avenfield reference, pertaining to the Sharif family’s London properties, is among three references filed against the Sharif family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) last year in the light of the Supreme Court’s directives in the Panama Papers case.
Furthermore, the court granted the exemption to Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz from the appearance as they are tending ill Kulsoom Nawaz in London.
